League Tournaments

League Tournament Information

Baseball generally has two tournaments during the spring/summer season and one tournament in the fall season.

Softball generally has one tournament at the end of the spring/summer season and the fall season.

These are in addition to All-Star tournaments, which are part of the Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth Tournament Trail.

Baseball League Tournaments

The Randy Seifert Tournament usually happens in June. It is for the Cal Ripken baseball divisions of Rookie, Minors, and Majors. It's named after current Buddy Ball director Randy Seifert, a Colorado Babe Ruth Hall of Fame member. It is a modified, double-elimination bracket tournament, using a consolation bracket. While most games are scheduled to run the Friday and Saturday of the tournament, games for some divisions can begin earlier the same week.

The League Championship Tournament ends the spring/summer baseball season, in late July. It is the same format as the previous tournament, as well as the same divisions.

Babe Ruth divisions have an end of season tournament in July, usually with other Babe Ruth leagues nearby. It is also a modified, double-elimination bracket.

The fall baseball season has a single-elimination tournament in late October, which ends the fall season. All fall baseball divisions participate.

Seeding for all baseball tournaments is done based on the division standings at the time the bracket is seeded. Ties are broken using the Babe Ruth League tournament tie break procedures. Winning percentage, then head to head, then runs against, then run differential.

Tournament formats may be adjusted based on the number of teams in a division.

Softball League Tournaments

The spring/summer softball season ends with an end of season tournament in late June or early July. It generally is a modified, double-elimination format and includes all softball divisions.

The fall softball season ends with a single-elimination tournament in late October, involving all softball divisions.

Seeding for all softball tournaments is done based on the division standings at the time the bracket is seeded. Ties are broken using the Babe Ruth League tournament tie break procedures. Winning percentage, then head to head, then runs against, then run differential.

Tournament formats may be adjusted based on the number of teams in a division.

All-Star Tournaments

Centennial will put together one or more All-Star teams in each age division, whenever possible, to participate in the Tournament Trail. These teams will be put together as early as April of each year, but can be formed as late as June. To be eligible for an All-Star team, players must be on a league roster in the spring/summer season, attend All-Star tryouts, and commit to the entire Tournament Trail for their division. Players will be selected and placed onto rosters by the All-Star Committee. Players selected to All-Star teams will be responsible for an additional cost, which will include a Centennial All-Star uniform and state tournament entry fee. This has historically been around $100.

Players selected and placed onto All-Star teams will have additional practices with their All-Star team. These are generally scheduled so they do not conflict with the player's league team. If there is a conflict, the player's league team is always the priority.

The Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken Tournament Trails begin in early July. Currently there are 2-3 stops along each trail, beginning with the state tournaments. Winners of the state tournaments will advance to the Midwest Plains Regional Tournament (late July) for their age division, with the winner of the MWP Regional advancing to the World Series (early to mid-August), depending on the age division. Some age divisions end at the MWP Regional level.

The Babe Ruth Softball Tournament Trail has state tournaments and regional qualifier tournaments, with winners of either going to the World Series. Colorado hosting either for any softball age group depends on a minimum number of entries per division, and will not happen if there is not enough participation.

Outside Tournaments

Every year, several of our teams choose to participate in outside tournaments, through hosts such as CABA. These are not league tournaments and are scheduled and paid for separately from the league. The insurance provided by the league will cover all rostered Centennial players during these outside tournaments. Inquiries about any outside tournaments should be directed to your team's manager.
